Welcome to Fleet Obsolete Restoration Project
WHO ARE WE?
Fleet Obsolete Restoration Project (FORP) is a non-profit chartered by the New York State Education Department and created for the purposes of restoring historic vessels and artifacts and creating associated museum space and educational programming.
WHAT DO WE DO?
FORP is ramping up for a year of preservation, educational and recreational activities. Currently operating in the historic Cornell Steamboat Company building located at 108-110 East Strand, Kingston, NY, the organization is establishing partnerships and collecting resources to create a restoration workshop for World War II Motor Torpedo Boats (PT Boats) and other historic vessels, establishing educational programming surrounding the work, and setting up museum space to illustrate and educate the public about the artifacts and era.
WHY DO WE DO IT?
FORP’s Board of Trustees, volunteers, partners, local and regional community members and especially the founder of the organization, Mr. Robert Iannucci, all agree that it is vital to preserve the artifacts and share the history of World War II to preserve the memories of the events, honor our local veterans, and share these artifacts and stories with future generations.
“I am passionate about preserving history and saving these vessels from disappearing. It is exciting and gratifying to see my efforts finally coming to fruition,” said Robert Iannucci, founder and creator of FORP and, to date, its primary benefactor. Mr. Iannucci is responsible for saving five historic PT boats, eight engines and various artifacts from being lost or destroyed. These will soon be donated to the non-profit to begin its restoration and educational activities.
